FSE filled Oslo Opera House with good ideas

Ferd Social Entrepreneurs (FSE) has organised the SosEnt. Conference for six years in a row. This year’s event was held on 3 November 2015 in the foyer of Oslo Opera House. 370 people had signed up for the conference, including private investors, public sector employees, politicians, non-profit organisations, students and a broad range of social entrepreneurs.

“It is really great to realise that there is increasing interest in the subject, and to see that concrete things are actually happening in the area”, comments Katinka Greve Leiner, the Director of FSE.

“The diversity is massive. We have brought together everything from investors to real idealists, and everyone in between. I am also pleased to be able to say that many people are here for the first time.  This means that not only is the subject now reaching more people, but hopefully also the right people”, comments Johan H. Andresen, the owner of Ferd.

New strategy
Anita Krohn Traaseth, CEO of Innovation Norway, was one of the invited speakers at this year’s conference. She thinks these are good times for new ideas.

“We are finally in a period of readjustment – not only in Norway, but globally. There is a whole list of adjustments that need to be made, as we cannot afford to carry on as we are, both from a financial and environmental perspective. There has never been a better time for brave and smart people who want to find new and smart solutions”, said Anita Krohn Traaseth.

'Recipe book' on the way
Jan Tore Sanner, the Minister of Local Government and Modernisation, announced at this year’s conference that his department will take charge of producing a ‘recipe book’ on social entrepreneurship.

“There are several areas involved in this, everything from children, health and employment. We want to work together with the various departments to produce a recipe book on social entrepreneurship. In the book we will present the framework and space of possibilities, and highlight concrete examples of successful social entrepreneurs”, said Jan Tore Sanner.

The purpose of the book is to give people who wish to use social entrepreneurs ideas about how they should proceed and information about what solutions are available.

Johan H. Andresen is very grateful for the promise of the new recipe book from Jan Tore Sanner:
“We would like to help with some recipes! There are many people here in this room who could contribute to such a recipe book, and I think we will also be able to offer some choice morsels”, comments Johan H. Andresen.

The winner of this year’s Social Entrepreneur of the Year competition was also announced at the conference, with the accolade going to Gammel Nok, a company that helps the over-50s to continue in work for longer.
